On Sunday, June 7, 2020, detectives from the Serious Crime Unit arrested two suspected fraudsters in Keroka, Nyamira County, with a consignment of Bata shoes valued at over Sh7 million.

The shoes were believed to be part of a larger Sh20 million loot orchestrated by a group of fraudsters using e-gift vouchers to swindle Bata Shoe Company.

The suspects were arrested at a shop owned by one of them, and investigations have commenced to recover the stolen goods and make further arrests.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that the suspects were part of a group that presented fake e-gift vouchers to several Bata shops within Nairobi to obtain the goods illegally.
