On World Environment Day, celebrated in June, Nairobi was ranked 14th globally and first in Africa as the most environmentally-friendly city for a getaway.

Compiled by international travel-booking company Tourlane, the list highlights Nairobi's low car ownership, high use of renewable energy, and low ratio of tourists to locals as key factors contributing to its high ranking.

Among the top 50 environmentally-friendly cities, Berlin topped the rankings, followed by Vienna, Munich, London, and Prague. Rotterdam, Shenzhen, Hamburg, Zurich, and Budapest completed the top 10 places.

According to Tourlane, the researchers used eight categories to reach their conclusions, including train accessibility, public transport, car-free areas, green space, tourist capacity, clean air, renewable energy, and recycling.
