On June 8, 2020, a 24-year-old teacher at Ober Boys High School in Rachuonyo East tested positive for Covid-19 after coming into contact with the school principal who died of the virus on Monday.
The teacher had attended a meeting on May 19 in the school compound, which was chaired by the principal who had travelled from his house in Migori town.
According to Homa Bay Health executive Richard Muga, the principal had convened the meeting at the school, which was also attended by four other members of staff, including three teachers and an official from the finance department.
After returning home, the principal sought medical attention at a local health facility but was later transferred to another private hospital in Kisumu due to lack of comprehensive health insurance cover.
However, the teacher has been isolated at Malela Covid-19 treatment centre for medication, while all staff of the school who interacted with him have been advised to self-quarantine.
