Kenyans' Concerns Over Covid-19 Pandemic

Published on June 8, 2020, a study by Infotrak revealed that a majority of Kenyans are worried about the Covid-19 pandemic, with 67% expressing extreme worry.

According to the study, 71% of respondents were worried that Kenyans are not adhering to government directives, hindering the war on the pandemic. This is an increase of 16% from previous findings.

Residents of Nairobi and Nyanza were the most concerned, with 82% each expressing worry. In contrast, residents of Eastern region were the least concerned.

Infotrak's director, Angela Ambitho, noted that the level of education and public awareness is still low in rural areas, which may contribute to the spread of the disease.

Young people, especially those between the ages of 18 and 25, were found to be less worried about the pandemic, with 11% no longer worried despite being worried before.

However, the study also found that 42% of respondents complained that lack of awareness about the disease will hinder the fight against it.

Majority of Kenyans expressed concern that there are probably many people who already have the infection but who are not aware that they have it.

Seventy one per cent said they were worried that Kenyans are not adhering to government directives, hindering the war on the pandemic.
