On June 7, 2020, South Sudan's coronavirus tally rose to 1,604 after the National Taskforce on Covid-19 reported 67 new cases.

According to the taskforce, the country has also reported four more fatalities, bringing the death toll to 19, while 15 people have recovered from the coronavirus.

Taskforce spokesman Makur Matur Koriom stated that the country currently has '1,570 active cases.'

Among the fifteen people who recovered are high-ranking government officials, including First Vice President Riek Machar, his wife Angelina Teny, Information Minister Michael Makuei, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Dau Deng, and Minister of Environment and Forestry Josephine Napou.

South Sudan has seen a rapid increase in the number of positive cases since the outbreak was first reported in the country in April.

As a result, the country's Ministry of Health has suspended the issuing of Covid-19 health certificates to individuals who test negative, following the discovery of an influx of fake certificates.
