ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi's recent meeting with former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, and Sally Kosgey, a former Head of Public Service, has sparked a succession plot within President Uhuru Kenyatta's camp.
According to sources, the powerful forces are pushing Mudavadi to succeed Uhuru, who is now openly controlling his succession, dumping Deputy President William Ruto in the process.
The group, known as the moderates, believes that Mudavadi, unlike Raila Odinga, will take time to give them positions, relying on them to run the country.
They are also worried that if Ruto becomes president, they will be sacked the following day once sworn-in.
The moderates are at war with hardliners, mostly members of the Kenyatta family, who believe that Mudavadi does not have the finances to run for presidency, despite being an astute leader.
They claim that in 2013, Mudavadi was funded by the Moi family but failed to run in 2017 due to financial troubles, forcing him to join the NASA forces.
The current political war between COTU boss Francis Atwoli and Mudavadi is also attributed to the belief that Atwoli can fund Mudavadi's presidency and has to be delinked from him in favor of handshake politics.
Those said to have a soft spot for Mudavadi in the corridors of power include David Murathe, who is from Gatanga, Murang'a county, and was instrumental in having Mudavadi accompany Uhuru to launch a power project in North Eastern.
The group has started working on plan B, similar to the Kibaki succession race, and has brought on board faces that handled Raila and Uhuru's presidential campaigns to rebrand Mudavadi.
They plan to form an operational secretariat to work on modalities under the banner
