The Kenyan government has formally handed over the management of the KSh 50 billion Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) construction project to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).
This landmark project is set to revolutionize healthcare in Kenya and the East African region.
By delivering the largest health facility in the country, featuring a sprawling 4,000-bed multi-specialty hospital.
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Set to Become Kenya’s Largest
Situated on a 200-acre site in Kiplombe, Eldoret, this ultra-modern hospital will significantly surpass the current Kenyatta National Hospital in capacity and scope.
The facility is designed to decongest the existing MTRH and expand access to advanced, specialized healthcare services.
Including oncology, surgery, and other critical care.
The first phase, targeting 2,000 beds, is expected to be completed by April 2027, with overall completion anticipated shortly thereafter.
KDF’s Role in Delivering Ultra-Modern Healthcare Infrastructure
The Kenya Defence Forces will supervise construction.
Thus, leveraging their engineering expertise to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of this critical infrastructure.
This demonstrates government confidence in the KDF’s capacity to handle large-scale national projects with accountability and efficiency.
The project is also set to create local employment opportunities and boost the regional economy during its construction phase.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale emphasized that the new hospital will serve as both a referral and training center.
Additionally, positioning Eldoret as a hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in East and Central Africa.
This initiative aligns tightly with Kenya’s national development goals to enhance healthcare infrastructure and broaden access to quality medical services for its citizens.
