Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian has taken her bitter breakup with former fiancé Musa Leyumpa to court, months after calling off their planned wedding. Through her lawyer, Danstan Omari, the senator filed a suit on Tuesday, August 12, accusing Leyumpa of persistently claiming she is his wife despite her rejecting him.
The drama began with a Samburu customary wedding that was abruptly cancelled. Since then, Hezena claims Leyumpa has launched a campaign to ruin her public image. She says he has been violent, abusive, and has used social media and influencers to tarnish her name, jeopardizing her political career.
The legal battle now pits the outspoken politician against a man she once planned to marry—but whom she says she wants nothing to do with.

Senator Hezena insists there was never a legal or complete traditional marriage between her and Leyumpa. Contrary to public perception, she says no dowry was ever paid to seal the union.
According to her, the Ksh100,000 “ropiyani e loip” Leyumpa sent was only a token in Samburu culture, not a dowry. She has since returned the money in full. Interestingly, she claims he was supposed to send Ksh50,000 but doubled it—a move that allegedly displeased community elders.
“I have sued the guy, and I want to set the record straight that we are not together anymore. He has caused me so much harm, and I want him to face the full force of the law,” she declared.
The senator says she decided to cancel the wedding after a background check into Leyumpa raised serious concerns. She has not revealed the full details of what she discovered, but made it clear it was enough to make her walk away from the relationship.
Slayqueen Senator Claims Violence and Defamation
Hezena’s court documents paint a disturbing picture of her former fiancé. She accuses him of domestic abuse, harassment, and engaging in an online smear campaign. She alleges that he has worked with certain influencers to spread lies and damaging claims about her, putting her public image and political ambitions at risk.
In addition to the defamation claims, she says Leyumpa has been pestering her directly, prompting her to seek temporary restraining orders. The senator wants him barred from contacting her in any form—whether in person, by phone, or through intermediaries.
The case is set for an inter partes hearing on September 22, 2025, when both sides will present arguments on whether the restraining orders should remain in place or be changed.
Political Stakes for Senator Hezena Lemaletian
For Hezena, this is more than a private breakup—it’s a political fight for survival. As a nominated senator with a rising public profile, her brand is tied to her reputation.
She warns that false narratives about her personal life could damage her standing with voters, party leadership, and political allies. Her team argues that Leyumpa’s public statements and online activity are part of a deliberate attempt to undermine her career.
This isn’t the first time the senator has claimed to be under threat. In June, she issued a public statement alleging her life was in danger. Without naming specifics, she pointed to a politically influential family in Samburu County and their allies.
“To my friends and relatives: If anything happens to me, one family in Samburu and its allies in the political class should be blamed,” she warned at the time.
The story of Slayqueen Hezena and Musa Leyumpa started with love, traditional customs, and public anticipation of a high-profile Samburu wedding. It has ended in courtrooms, with allegations of abuse, harassment, and political sabotage.
