Multiple students across the country have raised serious concerns about the ongoing inter-institutional transfer process managed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), citing persistent server issues and what they perceive as an intentional move to restrict access to the online platform.
The KUCCPS portal, which was officially opened for transfers, is reportedly non-functional, producing a constant “Error 500” message whenever users attempt to initiate the transfer process.

Affected students allege that the portal has been rendered unusable since Friday, effectively blocking thousands from completing vital academic transitions within the stipulated deadline.
Further complicating the matter, students who sought help at Huduma Centres claim that KUCCPS officials are redirecting them to physical offices in Nairobi or Thika to process their requests.
This directive, they say, poses a major logistical and financial burden, particularly for students from remote areas such as Murang’a, Nyeri, and other upcountry counties.
Frustration is mounting over the lack of a reliable digital system, especially given that the process is meant to be handled online.
Many students feel trapped in a situation that forces them to spend additional money on travel and accommodation just to complete a process that ordinarily costs KSh 1,000.
With university reporting dates around the corner and students trying to manage scarce resources, the added pressure of travel expenses has caused widespread anxiety.
There is growing concern that the bottlenecks created by the portal’s inaccessibility could lock out many deserving students from making timely and critical transfer decisions, affecting their academic trajectories.
Students are now appealing to KUCCPS and the Ministry of Education to urgently restore the online services and ensure fair and equitable access to the transfer process for all, regardless of location.
“Hello Cyprian, please communicate this for an urgent solution. Also if you have a solution, please share.
KUCCPS! KUCCPS! KUCCPS! They don’t want us to do the inter-institution transfer. They’ve opened the portal but downed the server, just getting Server Error 500 every time you click on the transfer option on the portal. I went to Huduma Centre today to inquire and also seek assistance, and the Huduma service person told me that they’ve downed the servers so that everyone can go directly to their office in Nairobi or Thika as they told me.
Sasa nauliza, mimi wa Murang’a, my cousin wa Nyeri and pia mwingine anayehitaji kubadilisha, tutatoshea ofisi yao Nairobi? Pia kwa ile elfu moja ya kubadilisha, nikiongeza nauli, hiyo pesa yote itatoka wapi na nahitaji kusave upkeep ya kuingia September.
Please communicate so that the relevant office can help open the servers so we do it online via the portal. Please 🙏🏽. They’ve downed the servers”
Below is one of the many screenshots we received from affected students attempting to access the KUCCPS inter-institutional transfer portal, showing the persistent “Server Error (500)” message.
