Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, a seasoned public health expert, has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer of the Social Health Authority (SHA) by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
She was selected from a competitive pool of 92 applicants and stood out among the 12 finalists who were interviewed for the role.
Dr. Mwangangi previously served as Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Health and currently holds the position of Senior Health Systems Strengthening Director at AMREF Health Africa.
At AMREF, she has been at the forefront of driving health financing and security efforts across Africa, focusing on primary healthcare and expanding universal health coverage.

Dr. Mercy Mwangangi was born in 1986, making her 39 years old. She hails from Machakos County and belongs to the Kamba community.
She attended Pangani Girls High School in Nairobi before joining the University of Nairobi, where she earned her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2009.
In 2015, she completed a Master’s Degree in Health Economics and Policy at the University of Adelaide in Australia.
