The Nakuru County Government has issued a formal statement following an altercation involving security guards and clients at the outpatient department of the Nakuru County Referral and Teaching Hospital early on Tuesday.
In the statement dated April 8, 2025, County Executive Committee Member for Health Services Roselyn Mungai described the incident as unfortunate and attributed it to two key issues.
First, she pointed out that the relatives of a patient who could not travel back home had been advised to remain in one area until dawn.
She stated that while such guidance may be necessary at times, all communication with clients must be conducted with respect and decorum.
Second, she acknowledged a lapse in the induction process for newly deployed security guards attached to the hospital.
According to the County Government, the security company responsible for the deployment failed to facilitate a proper onboarding process for its staff, contributing to the altercation witnessed in the morning.
Mungai said a mechanism has since been established to improve the transition and orientation of guards posted to the hospital to avoid similar incidents.
She reiterated that the welfare of clients remains a core concern for the Department of Health in Nakuru County.
The County Government has committed to addressing the gaps identified and maintaining professionalism across all public health facilities.
