Why Are Betting Companies Being Allowed To Dupe Kenyans?
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
This is getting insanely out of hand. We have previously accused the Director General of Communications Authority of Kenya Francis Wangusi for getting bribes so as to look the other way, and turn a blind eye towards the flagrant abuse of media laws and ethics in the country.
For instance, there are rules that should guide advertising, a reason why alcohol companies aren't allowed to advertise before 9pm . There are also rules cracking down on cigarette companies and their misleading adverts.
So why is CAK, the Media Council of Kenya and Ezekiel Mutua silent as betting companies engage in deceptive marketing showing it as trendy and legitimate? Like any other vice, betting is addictive and can make people bet their earnings.
Why are betting companies being allowed to advertise on prime-time instead of late-night? Why have media personalities and celebrities been allowed to endorse betting companies? Why are betting companies being allowed to operate freely without oversight? How much have they Bribed CAK officials to get away with this?
Betting isn't an economic activity. Government shouldn't view tax from betting as a worthy revenue stream. Betting in many countries is illegal and betting companies we know are used to launder money. Why then is the media set-up allowing betting to be projected as a glamorous endeavour which can improve lives?
Are the concerned Government officials and watchdog-bodies so thick as to compromise an entire generation all in pursuit of cheap bribes? Why is everyone else concerned about the increasing number of betting companies, yet the country’s GDP isnt growing commensurate to the so-called “investment”?
Why is EVERYONE else concerned about betting in Kenya except Government officials?
