Why A Kikuyu had to be the Central Bank Governor
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
When Uhuru Kenyatta Named Patrick Njoroge as Central Bank Governor, there was outrage on social media . People asked why It had to be a Kikuyu...The reality is that the Son On Jomo was under pressure to name somebody from the tribe . Why ? Professionals and tycoons from Central, who run the economy because they are key players in the banking industry demanded that one of their own should be at the helm to protect their interest. First, the tycoons ensured that the Central bank of Kenya Bill that would open the appointment of the CBK governor on a competitive basis is not enacted . This position has been held by a person from the same ethnic community. The first CBK governor was Leon Baranski who served between May 1966 to May 1967. Dancan Ndegwa took over btn 1967 to 1982. Moi's efforts to replace the CBK governor with sbdy from a different community were met with threats of Economic Sabotage on grounds that the community controls the country's economy but Moi brought in Kotut, his tribesman who served up to 1983 then Micah Cheserem, His tribesman took over up to the year 2001 then Later Nahashon Nyagah When Kibaki took over, Nyagah was kicked out and replaced with Andrew Mulei who served up to 2007 before passing the button to Njuguna Ndungu who has now been replaced by Patrick Njoroge Connect the Dots
