The reason why some countries are rich and others poor depends on many things, including the quality of their institutions, the culture they have, the natural resources possess and what latitude they lie on.
According to the 17th edition of the Kenya Economic Update, the proportion of Kenyans living on less than the international poverty line (US$1.90 per day in 2011 PPP) sat at 36.1% in 2015/16.
