University Of Nairobi Medical Student Backs Cyprian Nyakundi's Expose On The Institution
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
Just days after a controversial blogpost that exposed the rot within the University of Nairobi School of Medicine, a student has now come forward to back those claims. In the letter that included an anonymity request, the student agrees with the sentiments raised by his fellow classmates regarding the issue of over 250 students missing from the graduation list for allegedly having failed their exams and the corruption within students' organizations.
"Dear Cyprian,
This is a follow up to your post on the rot in the UoN medical school. I am among the guys set to graduate this Friday and I must say that I agree with sentiments shared. We used to be 500 in first year and now only 250 are set to graduate.
However, the rot is no better in the senior years. I currently have colleagues who are set to go serve the community as doctors and have been ghost students for the better part of medical school. Colleagues who've stolen millions from national and university based student organisations and given accolades for exemplary leadership and set to be medical officer interns in a county near you. Whilst some colleagues are set to sit special exams early next year for lack of fees and other who have almost 100% attendance are plagued with them.
It's sad that the quality of medical education in this country is gradually going to the dogs, but all we can do is hope and pray for days.
