Twitter Unveils “Snapchat” Like Camera For Its Mobile App.
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
Twitter has redesigned its in-app camera as part of its effort to encourage people to share more pictures and videos in real-time on its platform.
The new feature is said to be a look-alike to some of the most popular picture sharing apps such as Snapchat and Instagram.
The company through a tweet announced the arrival of the new feature.
"See it? Tweet it! Our updated camera is just a swipe away, so you get the shot fast. Rolling out to all of you over the next few days," the company tweeted.
Twitter vice president Keith Coleman, in a tweet explained how important the new camera feature would be to its users when it comes to sharing what is happening in real time.
"We're rolling out improvements to the Twitter camera, designed to make it easier to capture what you see happening, and get it to the people who want to see and talk about it”.
“The first moment that pictures mattered on Twitter was when a plane landed in the Hudson,” Twitter's vice president added. “If it was an ephemeral picture … it would have had a very different effect than if it was a picture that was live for the world to see that could go viral.”
All you have to do is open the Twitter app on your phone, swipe left and you will see Snapchat-style camera shutter button. From there, you'll have the Capture and Live options. With Capture, you can either do a quick tap to snap a picture or hold it for a couple of seconds to record a video. You can also tap on the live button to start a broadcasting stream with your followers directly from Twitter
According to Techcrunch report, Twitter was not giving Twitter Camera an algorithmic boost in the main timeline and that it has combined both ‘Human and Technology Curation in its development.
For now, the twitter camera has not added any stickers, filters, light enhancements or any other creative tools. The company is yet to confirm whether the features will be available in its future update.
