Newsroom Updated 1 min read
A Nairobi court has today issued an arrest warrant against award winning journalist, Jeff Koinange and political commentator, Tony Gachoka, for failing to appear in court.
The arrest warrant was issued by Nairobi Senior Resident Magistrate, Maisy Chesang, after the two failed to appear in court to answer to charges of discussing the conduct of a company in the media despite a court order barring them from doing so.
The two allegedly committed the offence on 'Jeff Koinage Live' show that Jeff hosts on Kenya Television Network (KTN).
“A warrant of arrest is issued against the two respondents for failing to honuor the summons to appear in court. The warrant will be effected through the complainants’ advocates,” the magistrate ruled.
The complainants are businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, Mr Sani Mbui Wanjigi and Kwacha Group of Companies Limited.
In their suit, the complainants had obtained orders on March 20 barring Mr Koinange, KTN and the Standard Media Group from broadcasting or publishing alleged defamatory statements concerning them and the company.
Gachoka and Jeff alleged that Wanjigi who is a close friend of President Uhuru Kenyatta is the father of all corruption a in Kenya.
Terming him “James Bond of corruption”, Gachoka linked Wanjigi and Kwacha Group of Companies to Goldenberg, Anglo Leasing among other corruption scandals.
