Tahmeed Bus Crash Leaves 10 Hospitalized in Mombasa

At least ten people were rushed to Coast General Hospital after a Tahmeed Bus rammed into a matatu at Kibarani Flyover, Mombasa, around 1 a.m. on Friday, April 4.

The 52-seater bus, headed uphill from Mwembe Tayari, suffered brake failure and rolled back into the PSV matatu. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as passengers jumped for their lives.

Authorities are now calling for urgent action from NTSA and KENHA to prevent such avoidable accidents amid increasing concerns over road safety.

Brake Failure Blamed for Tahmeed Bus Crash at Kibarani Flyover

A midnight road crash involving a Tahmeed Bus left at least ten passengers injured in Mombasa on Friday.

According to eyewitnesses, the 52-seater bus was climbing uphill from Mwembe Tayari when it developed mechanical problems.

Its brakes reportedly failed, causing it to roll backward and slam into a matatu from the Miritini Sacco near the Kibarani Flyover.

The matatu had several passengers on board. Many suffered head injuries and broken legs. One survivor recalled jumping off just moments before the crash.

“I was seated at the back of the matatu and noticed a passenger leap out of the bus. I followed immediately. A few seconds later, the bus smashed into the front of our vehicle,” the survivor said. He added that a bodaboda rider and his passenger narrowly escaped as well.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and rushed the injured to Coast General Hospital. As of publication time, no fatalities had been reported.

MCA Calls Out NTSA Over Lax Vehicle Inspections

Chaani Ward MCA, Manuari Seff Juma, condemned the incident, blaming the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) for failing to enforce strict vehicle inspections.

“This accident could have been avoided if NTSA had done its job. All vehicles must undergo proper servicing before hitting the roads,” he said at the scene.

Juma also appealed to drivers to remain cautious, especially during the ongoing rainy season. He urged KENHA to maintain the roads better, noting that poor infrastructure may worsen accident risks.

The Tahmeed Bus crash comes just hours after a separate road incident in Kiambu County. Students from Mugoiri Girls High School sustained injuries after the matatu they were traveling in veered off the road and landed in a ditch.

In light of the recent accidents, NTSA has urged all road transport stakeholders to implement measures that improve safety for passengers and drivers alike.
