South C Member of County Assembly Abass Khalif on Wednesday disbursed Ksh 1,483,500 to all football teams in Lang’ata constituency participating in the upcoming FKF leagues, a move aimed at fostering youth engagement in sports while providing essential logistical support for match days.
In addition to the financial backing, he pledged to supply two sets of uniforms per team and cover transportation costs, ensuring that the teams are well-equipped to participate fully in the league fixtures.

He further explained that the initiative seeks to cultivate local sporting talent while offering young people a constructive alternative to drug-related activities, positioning sports as a means to channel energy positively and instill discipline among the youth.
He also indicated that football represents the first phase of a wider plan to support various sporting disciplines across the constituency, with future interventions expected to benefit volleyball, basketball, tennis, and athletics, thereby creating multiple opportunities for talent development and community engagement.
“This initiative is meant to provide the necessary backing for our teams so that they can concentrate on training and performance, while also creating avenues for young people to engage in constructive and disciplined activities that promote both personal growth and community cohesion,” he added.
He noted that coaches and local sports officials have welcomed the move, observing that the injection of resources will relieve financial pressures, enable teams to focus on training and strategy, and enhance their preparedness for the competitive season ahead.
