According to her, the Ksh100,000 “ropiyani e loip” Leyumpa sent was only a token in Samburu culture, not a dowry. She has since returned the money in full. Interestingly, she claims he was supposed to send Ksh50,000 but doubled it—a move that allegedly displeased community elders.
“I have sued the guy, and I want to set the record straight that we are not together anymore. He has caused me so much harm, and I want him to face the full force of the law,” she declared.
The senator says she decided to cancel the wedding after a background check into Leyumpa raised serious concerns. She has not revealed the full details of what she discovered, but made it clear it was enough to make her walk away from the relationship.
