Search for gang members who killed Flying Squad officer spreads to Tanzania
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
Detectives have extended their manhunt for two suspected gang members who shot down a Flying Squad officer to neighbouring country Tanzania.
The two are linked to a notorious Mombasa gang that was caught on camera while performing one of their broad daylight robberies last week. According to Taveta Sub-County Commander Lawrence Maroa, they have sought assistance from the Tanzanian government in order to trace down the criminals as soon as possible.
“We have notified them (Tanzanian authorities) about the suspects so the operation is still ongoing. We have widened our dragnet at all border areas to ensure that we get them if they try ti sneak back to the country.”
The two are believed to have escaped through the Taveta - Holili border just moments after they shot down the officer during an operation.
Mr. Maroa has also urged members of the public to volunteer information to law enforcement officers if they spot the criminals.
The Flying Squad officer and his colleagues had trailed the suspects from Mombasa on Sunday up to Taveta town where he met his unfortunate death while receiving treatment at the Taveta Sub County Hospital following his shooting.
