Story · Scandal at Mwache Multipurpose Dam involving National Land Commission (NLC)

Mwache River where a multi-purpose dam is to be constructed in Kwale County.

Greetings,

I have been working in The Mwache Multipurpose Dam Project that is currently underway in Kasemeni, Kinango Sub-county in Kwale County.

Currently, we are carrying out livelihood and restoration for the community losing property in the area.

A Consultancy firm which is responsible for helping the community losing property prepare and structure their life afterwards has done a great job by assisting the community.

The main problem is that we are at the awarding stage.

Survey and inquiry have already been done by the National Land Commission (NLC) and to every body's surprise, they are paying these people Sh350k per acre. Simon Chelugui, then Cabinet Secretary for Water visits the site where Mwache Multipurpose Dam will be constructed in Kwale County. The dam is expected to pump at least 196,000m3 litres of water daily to Kwale and Mombasa counties. Imagine Sh350k per acre in an area where land is going for Sh800k- Sh1M?

Local leaders are doing nothing about it.

NLC is forcing the community, who the majority are not educated and aged, to sign documents while threatening them that if they don't they will stay for over 10 years without pay.

The community is stranded wondering where they will buy land with such money and start life over again.

Come to their aid and air out this criminality.
