Story · Safaricom accused of hacking a client's phone, using up his over 8k airtime in seconds

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa

A Twitter user by the name Joseph Muthengi (@Joselonzo) Saturday morning narrated how he lost his Sh8960 airtime and 8GB data bundles without using them.

"Over night, I lost 8,950 airtime, lost almost 8GB data yesterday, my zidisha bundle vanished without calls! I called your Cs,you hanged up on me! I tweeted, I was given a false promise.Who’s using my line?!", he tweeted tagging Safaricom, their CEO, Consumer Federation of Kenya and Communications Authority

He believes that someone hacked his line and used up his airtime and data bundles.

"I just want to know who has access to my Safaricom line, who’s “making calls” when I am asleep, who’s using my data when I have WiFi at home and at work and cellular data is turned off. Why I can’t view my data usage on my app or website", he continued.

Safaricom PLC has had a lot of hacking done to its systems over the past few years. It has become rampant such that the Telco recently went on a system revamping spree that raised eyebrows.

Every week, the Telco had a notice up about 'MPESA services system upgrade'.

Last month, a lady narrated how her dad lost Sh55,500 from his MPESA and had an unknown person take a loan of a Sh30,000 on behalf of him on MPESA.

Joseph Muthengi's case is different and chilling. He shared the below pictures to support his claim.
