The Role of the Media in Education Questioned
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
The Kenyan media has a huge role to play in shaping the future of this country. The media elites must understand this. But the problem with our Kenyan media is focusing on things that cannot help us in any way.
Kenya is churning out very many graduates per year. According to research, the Job market cannot be able to absorb all of them. Most of them end up being underemployed.
You wont be shocked to find a fella who cleared campus still staying with their parents because he cant support him/herself. But then that is how our society is suffering.
The media just assumes all these factors. They never come up with solutions. They will just expose cheating in schools or complain about poor academic standards without investigating to know the major cause of those problems Media should come up with solutions...Not pushing us further down the rabbit hole. Employers have complained about half baked graduates being churned out. Nowadays,If you have a D - you will study in a reputable univ if your pockets are deep. The love of money is to be blamed, loosely speaking.
The Media should investigate and know why students are buying papers, cheating in exams or why the market is full of half baked graduates not demonizing one Campus to achieve their evil goals. But views should come from Journalists who understand the education sector not the likes of Larry Madowo who never finished Campus
