Residents of Utawala GreenCourt, located along the Eastern Bypass near Shell petrol station, have raised concerns over the rapid construction of a mosque within their gated community.
The mosque, which has been coming up at an alarming rate in the past month, has caused significant unease among the retirees living in the area.
The structure is now on its third floor, and despite complaints to City Hall, no meaningful action has been taken to halt the development.

According to sources, the mosque construction was initiated by a group of Somali individuals, and their actions have been marked by aggressive resistance to any attempts to stop the project.
When the Chairman of the court raised concerns and questioned the construction of the mosque, the situation escalated quickly.
Within an hour of the Chairman’s inquiry, over 30 individuals, referred to as goons, reportedly stormed the court premises and went to his home, threatening him with violence.
Fortunately, the Chairman was not at home at the time, but the goons were said to have shouted insults and threats, challenging his authority.
The Chairman promptly reported the incident to local police stations in Utawala and Embakasi but despite the severity of the situation, there has been no response from law enforcement.
Following this incident, the residents attempted to report the issue to the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the City Council, but their intervention was short-lived.

According to reports, after an official visit to the site, the authorities were instructed to leave the premises by a higher power, which further fueled the residents’ suspicions that there is powerful backing behind the project.
The development has caused considerable distress, especially for retirees living in the community who feel unsafe and violated by the unlawful construction within their residential area.
The community’s concerns are aggravated by the alleged involvement of a local MCA aspirant from Mihango, who is reportedly backing the construction.
