Residents living around Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County are up in arms following a prolonged and unjustified water supply disconnection tied to recent county-led roadworks near the stadium.
According to multiple sources familiar with the issue, the trouble began roughly three weeks ago when the county initiated construction works on access roads surrounding Kirigiti Stadium.

During the course of the roadworks, water pipes in the area were reportedly damaged, resulting in significant water loss.
The disruption led to a full week without water for many surrounding residential estates and apartment buildings.
Shockingly, residents now say they are being punished for infrastructure failures caused during the county’s own project.
After the initial water interruption, the Kiambu County Government allegedly passed on the cost of the lost water to nearby households and apartment complexes, demanding that they foot the bill for the loss.
Despite pushback from residents over the rationale and fairness of the charge, county authorities reportedly responded by once again cutting off the water supply, this time citing non-payment of the bill tied to the earlier loss.
Locals have expressed outrage over what they term an act of negligence and administrative overreach, arguing that the county government is unjustly punishing them for damages that arose from a public works initiative they had no control over.
To make matters worse, the newly constructed roads themselves have drawn sharp criticism.
Observers note that the condition of the roads has deteriorated rapidly, with some stretches reportedly worse off than before the upgrades began.
The residents are now calling on the county government, under Governor Kimani Wamatangi, to take full responsibility for the water pipe damage, restore water access immediately, and conduct a thorough assessment of the road quality delivered through the project.
They argue that continued disconnection of a basic utility over contested charges amounts to collective punishment and signals a breakdown in service accountability.
“Hi Nyakundi, there was construction of the roads around Kirigiti Stadium 3 weeks ago. Water supply was cut off for a week during construction. Apparently, there was some water loss due to burst pipes. The bill was passed down to surrounding apartments. Now the water supply has been cut off again by the Kiambu County Government, claiming the bill due to water loss has not been paid. What kind of barbaric reasoning is that? The roads themselves were poorly done; they are even worse than before.”
