Popular Kikuyu musician Joseph Kamaru Legendary Kikuyu benga musical Joseph Kamaru has died.

Kamaru, who was often touted as the King of benga in the vast Mount Kenya region, died at the age of 79 on the night of Wednesday, October 3, at MP Shah Hospital, Nairobi, where he was undergoing treatment.

Sending his condolences, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said this

"I have learnt of the passing of my friend and legendary musician Joseph Kamaru whose music inspired generations in central Kenya and beyond to reflect deeply on profound political, cultural and social issues. It is truly the end of an era. God rest his soul in peace. My prayers are with the family." "Our dad has gone to be with the Lord while at MP Shah Hospital where we took him on Monday after having difficulties in breathing and having tremors.

"He was diagnosed with Parkinson plus, a nerve disease which we believe is the main cause of his death. But we thank God for giving him to us," He told media
