Yesternight, Economist David Ndii, a fierce critic of president Uhuru Kenyatta spoke on a local television station on a myriad of issues.

Here are some take aways: On the handshake After the 2017 election fiasco, there were people who would have preferred to negotiate a nusu mkate and there were those that wanted a structured process of resolving the problems we were facing. On the structure of government We are struggling because of a systemic problem, we have adopted a presidential system but have a parliamentary legacy. On the referendum There is a bit of confusion when you talk about Referendum. The referendum we were talking about in the beginning is different from the one we are talking about now.

The Referendum we were talking about before was meant to create a transitional government instrument.

Under that transitional government, reforms would have been worked out. Then There would have been a referendum to implement those reforms; if necessary. What is Raila Odinga doing in Government? What you see in practice is Raila championing Jubilee agenda and pushing his Party to do the same. What you also see is not a transitional but rather a succession agenda.

It is politics of self-preservation which is meant to ensure that Uhuru and his constituency will continue to play a role beyond the end of his term. Where does that leave William Ruto? Part of that is either meant to take William Ruto out of the equation or to force him to be part of whatever agenda they want to create Have you cut all ties with ODM and the Raila Odinga ?
