The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been on an investigative over fake academic certificates.

EACC has put all civil servants under scrutiny due to cases and reports of forged academic certificates.

At the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA ), the following have been found out and sacked. Paul Kosgei – Director General Julius Olayo - Director Human Resources Irine Ogamba - Manager Legal Department Galma Guyo - Manager levy Eric Owino - Senior HRO Furthermore, NITA staff members, that are linked to those named above, have been interdicted over fake academic qualifications. EACC “Forgery of academic certificates has become prevalent in the public service. This is not only a crime but also a violation of Chapter 6 of the Constitution. EACC is investigating suspected public officials and will seek to recover salaries earned on fake academic qualifications”, EACC posted on their social media accounts on July 11th 2022.

On July 5th 2022, EACC arrested two civil servants for forging academic certificates.

The duo, Pauline Otieno and Lilian Ochieng are accused of forging Mount Kenya University and Kenya Institute of Supplies Management certificates.

They are required to refund all the salary earned or spend time in jail. “JAILED FOR FORGING ACADEMIC CERTIFICATES: Pauline Otieno &Lilian Ochieng jailed for forging MKU and KISM certificates to gain employment. Pauline- 2yrs 6 mnths or pay KES.228,698. Lilian- 3yrs 6 months or pay KES.271,901. Each to REFUND ALL SALARY EARNED ON FAKE CERTIFICATES”, EACC wrote. The two were staff of the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC).
