[PHOTOS] Hillary Mutyambai Sworn In As The New Inspector General Of Police

Hillary Mutyambai was sworn in as the New Inspector General Of Police (IG) this morning replacing Joseph Boinnet who retired in 11th March, 2019.

The event was presided over by the Chief Justice David K. Maraga.

The new inspector general of police is a former head of anti-terrorism unit and has a background in security Intelligence Services.

Mutyambai rose thriugh the ranks in police service to become the Deputy Director in charge of Counter-Terrorism in the National Intelligence Service (NIS) – a position he held before his nomination as IG.

Joseph Boinnet was also a career spy turned cop tasked with cleaning the mess that had been during the first IGP's David Kimaiyo's tenure.

He joins Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) CEO Twalib Mbarak in the list of NIS men appointed to lead key institutions during President Uhuru's tenure.

On his swearing in, Mutyambai said that he is keen to see that a referral hospital specifically catering for police be built.

'On welfare I will consult with different stakeholders and will ensure a National police referral hospital is constructed', he said.

He also promised to improve the welfare of the police officers and to engage the Salary and Remuneration Commission to improve the lives of police officers.

“I will consult the National Police Service Commission and SRC on the issue of house allowance so that our men and women in uniform can live in decent and affordable houses," Mutyambai said.
