Photos: Detectives arrest three men pretending to be traffic police officers and taking bribes along the Machakos - Kitui road

This afternoon, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested three men from a group of five who had been pretending to be traffic police officers and had been setting up fake police checks along various highways.
At the time of arrest, the group was performing traffic duties along the Machakos - Kitui road and when detectives commanded them to surrender, they fired shots at the officers.
Two managed to escape and several rounds of ammunition, a pistol and a motor vehicle were recovered.
The detectives also rescued one of the victims who had been handcuffed by the fake police officers and a manhunt for the two fugitives has been launched.
It is reported that the thugs have been impersonating traffic police officers along major roads and handcuffing their before asking for bribes and eventually stealing their motor vehicles.
DCI Detectives have been following them based on information received from their previous victims and were cornered today in Makuyuni area.
