[PHOTOS] CoverUp - Houses Burnt in Ngara Estate Nairobi, Authorities Downplay Incident
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
The editor of this site has received shocking pictures of houses that were destroyed by fire that started at nearby Nyayo Market, Ngara Estate in Nairobi.
The fire is reported to have started at midnight, 13th March, 2019.
Though it it not yet clear what caused the fire, residents claim that authorities have kept this incident away from the media. Only a few grainy videos exist on Facebook documenting the event.
However, even those grainy videos that seem to have been captured by phone cameras, dont show the true extent of the damage.
Most of them report that the fire burnt the market stalls and wares, yet no one has had the audacity to show what tenants of a nearby building are going through. 'The sitting room was burnt down totally. We fear that the structure is compromised because of the heat, the plasters have peeled off, walls have cracks...the roofs are leaking. Nairobi County Government engineers are yet to assess the damage', said one resident. Good news is that no injuries were reported.
