Gospel musician Guardian Angel found himself on the receiving end of endless jokes from Kenyans after his Facebook page, Guardian Angel Global, shared a post praising President William Ruto.

What appeared to be a simple political endorsement quickly turned into an entertaining exchange, with social media users abandoning the intended message and instead making jokes about the singer's marriage, his relationship with the President and the political situation in the country.

The post, captioned “USAWA NI SAWA | His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H.”, featured two photographs, one showing Ruto greeting supporters from a vehicle and another capturing a large crowd dressed in different colours. However, rather than attracting the expected reactions to the President's political activities, the post drew comments from followers who appeared more interested in teasing Guardian Angel.

One of the first commenters, Joel Mirinah, questioned the singer's use of the word usawa, making a joke about the age difference between Guardian Angel and his wife, Esther Musila.

“Usawa gani and yet there's a 36 years difference between the key and padlock?” Joel wrote, accompanying his comment with a laughing emoji.

The remark set the tone for a comment section where the musician's marriage became an unexpected subject of discussion. Guardian Angel and Esther Musila have previously attracted public attention over their age difference, and some followers used the political post to revisit the subject.

Another Facebook user, Joseph Mwangi, introduced a joke combining the singer's marriage with President Ruto's familiar political slogan.

“If someone who becomes a grandfather b4 being a father says tutam whom am I to say no, tutam-toa,” he commented.

The jokes continued when Xteve Pappah asked, “How's our shosh doing?” while Mercy De Kioko wondered whether the singer had begun following the political direction of Esther Musila's grandson.

“Umeanza grandson wa Esther musila?? Unataka tupitie hio njia sindio??” she wrote.

Other commenters took the discussion in a completely different direction, questioning Guardian Angel's apparent support for the President. Brian Asena responded with the short but pointed remark, “Ujatosheka na za vitungu,” while Mark Ochili wrote, “Hiyo kitungu uzia huyo mzee yako.”

Some followers also questioned whether the singer's post had anything to do with a possible invitation to State House. Ireen Yule Mpole asked, “Juu uliitwa state house???” while Karim Karma wondered, “So he sent you to take photos for him?”

The comments were not limited to Guardian Angel's personal life. Political discussions soon entered the conversation, with several users using the opportunity to make predictions and jokes about the 2027 General Election.

Dan Entrepreneurs wrote, “Sugoi na must Go have one thing in common...GO....but it will be revealed 2027.”

Another commenter, Grivin Orata, went further by claiming that even President Ruto would support Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna in the next presidential election.

“Even Ruto himself will vote for Sifuna as the 6th president,” he joked.

The remark reflected the political banter taking place beneath the musician's post rather than any indication of the President's actual voting intentions.

Not everyone appeared interested in the political debate. Mark Too questioned whether he should continue listening to Guardian Angel's music, writing, “Sijui nivute nyimbo zako ama niaache?”

Meanwhile, Tyso Lee Josephat introduced an entirely unrelated question about whether people who are blind see images in their dreams, further demonstrating how far the conversation had moved from the original subject.

Another commenter, Clinton Okuso, returned to the onion jokes by asking, “Kitunguu moja kubwa NI how much?” while Frank Perfect simply wrote, “Na unapenda wazee.”

The reactions illustrate how quickly a public figure's social media post can take an unexpected direction, particularly when it touches on politics. Guardian Angel's message was intended to celebrate President Ruto, but many of those responding appeared determined to turn the occasion into an opportunity for humour and criticism.

What is clear is that the phrase “USAWA NI SAWA” attracted an entirely different interpretation from some of his followers. Instead of discussing the crowds accompanying Ruto or the President's political activities, Kenyans brought up Esther Musila, onions, State House and Edwin Sifuna.

For Guardian Angel, a short Facebook caption praising the Head of State ended up generating a lengthy discussion about almost everything except the message he had intended to commu
