Old social media posts by Zimbabwean activist Susan Mutami have resurfaced following the death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo in a helicopter crash in Marondera, with one of the posts drawing particular attention because it appeared to predict that the businessman would die in an aircraft accident more than a year before his death.
A screenshot of Mutami’s X account shows that on May 28, 2025, she posted a photograph of Chivayo and wrote: “He’s actually going to die in a plane crash. Save this post.”
The post remained online and resurfaced after reports emerged that Chivayo had died in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe on September 30, 2026.
The timing has triggered widespread discussion online, with users sharing screenshots of the old post and pointing to the reference to an aircraft accident.
The actual incident, however, involved a helicopter rather than a plane. The aircraft came down in the Marondera Rural area of Mashonaland East at around 5pm on Wednesday.
Zimbabwean authorities said there were no survivors, while Chivayo’s family later confirmed that the businessman and his wife, Lucy Muteke, were among those who died. Police and emergency teams were sent to the scene, where the aircraft caught fire. Investigations into what caused the crash are ongoing.
The resurfaced post has generated speculation about how Mutami arrived at her prediction. Some social media users have questioned whether she possessed information about Chivayo’s future movements or circumstances at the time, while others have simply described the coincidence as striking.
The Chivayo post is not the only old Mutami statement attracting renewed attention. Another screenshot shows a July 21, 2022 post in which she said Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Responding to a post by Mnangagwa about Zimbabwe’s Parliament, Mutami wrote: “This man raped me when I was a minor and tomorrow I am hosting a space where I will be telling everyone what u did,I’m also going to tell people what u did to that young girl who was studying at Kwekwe High School who later died and u paid all her funeral expenses. Satan.”
Mutami subsequently spoke publicly about the act and said she had reported what she described as sexual abuse to police in Australia. In a statement published in July 2022, she said she wanted the matter to follow due process and described herself as a witness in a case involving what she say was abuse by Mnangagwa.
Zimbabwean presidential spokesman George Charamba dismissed the claims as rumours, while another woman mentioned in Mutami’s allegations, former deputy minister Annastancia Ndlovu, denied that she had been sexually abused by Mnangagwa.
The screenshot of the 2022 post also shows that Mutami was responding directly to a post from Mnangagwa dated July 20, 2022, in which the Zimbabwean president had written about the country's new Parliament.
Mutami has for years used social media to make public statements involving prominent Zimbabwean political and business figures. Her claims have attracted both support and criticism, with some disputed by the people she has named. Her old posts have now returned to public attention for a different reason, following the death of Chivayo and the striking reference to an aircraft crash in her May 2025 message.
Chivayo, who was 43, was a prominent Zimbabwean businessman known for his lavish lifestyle, high-profile political connections and public displays of wealth. His death alongside his wife and other passengers has prompted tributes across Zimbabwe and the region. Authorities have not yet announced the cause of the crash, meaning the circumstances that led to the helicopter going down remain under investigation.
