Kenya’s cement industry is fast turning into a major battleground for some of the country’s wealthiest investors, with about Sh133 billion being deployed in the race for market share.
The growing investment reflects the strong demand for cement as construction activity continues across the country, from housing projects and commercial buildings to roads, factories and major infrastructure projects. As demand grows, established manufacturers and new investors are putting more money into production capacity, technology and distribution networks in an effort to capture a larger share of the market.
The battle is no longer simply about who can produce the most cement. Companies are also competing on pricing, efficiency, access to raw materials and the ability to reach customers across different parts of Kenya.
