Members of Parliament are facing criticism for failing to pass legislation intended to give the IEBC stronger control over election technology ahead of the 2027 polls.

The proposed changes would require the commission to ensure greater access to information, servers and technology used in voter identification, results transmission and election management.

The issue has renewed memories of the 2017 presidential election dispute, when lack of access to election servers became one of the central controversies in the Supreme Court case that nullified the presidential result.

Supporters of the reforms say the IEBC needs clear legal authority over contractors and technology providers to avoid repeating past disputes over access, transparency and ownership of election systems.
