The Helicopter That Crashed in Samburu, Killing 7 Tourists, is Owned by Gideon Moi

Explosive new details have linked KANU Chairman Gideon Moi to the ownership of the Eurocopter EC130 B4 (registration 5Y-GYM) that crashed into the steep terrain of Mt. Ololokwe in Samburu County, taking the lives of all seven people on board.

According to exclusive intelligence obtained by Nyakundi Report, the luxury aircraft—previously operated under charter arrangements—traces its true ownership directly to the former Baringo Senator and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi.

The tragedy, which occurred around 9:13 AM on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, saw the chopper burst into flames upon impact while carrying six foreign tourists and an experienced pilot.

7 fatalities, including pilot Josh Outran and six foreign tourists (Roger Duarte, Adam Navaty, Stephany Vásconez, Henry Parra, Michele Sensi-Contugi, and Suian Suarez).

Michele Sensi Contugi, 44, Director General of Ecuador’s National Intelligence Center and a close ally of President Daniel Noboa, was killed in the crash alongside his wife, Stephany Hollihan Vásconez, 42, a fashion designer.

The crash also claimed the lives of four close friends from South Florida:

José Alberto Suárez, 55, President and General Manager of Telemundo stations in Florida and an NBCUniversal executive.

Roger E. Duarte, founder of Miami-based George Stone Crab.

Adam Hlavaty, 42, Vice President of Development at Benihana and a board member of the Coral Gables Art Museum.

Henry Parra, 55, an aviation software executive, US Navy veteran and co-founder of Trax USA. He was Hlavaty’s husband.

The helicopter had departed from the Soyian area of Laikipia toward Loisaba Conservancy before crashing and bursting into flames in rugged terrain approximately 170 miles north of Nairobi.

All seven occupants were killed in the crash.

The deaths have triggered international diplomatic coordination, with the United States, Ecuador and Italy liaising with Kenyan authorities.

Italy's involvement follows Sensi Contugi's dual Italian citizenship.

Kenya's Air Accident Investigation Department (AAID) is leading the technical investigation into the circumstances and cause of the crash.
