Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu Under Fire From Kiambu Residents Over Del Monte Deal
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
Residents of Gatuanyaga in Kiambu County have now accused Governor Ferdinand Waititu of entering into an agreement with Del-monte without consulting them. The residents are also up in arms over a proposal to set aside 200 acres of the land to construct an airstrip.
The agreement between the County Government and Del Monte will see the Country administration assume ownership of 640 acres of land that was originally the property of Del monte Company.
Gatuanyaga residents now claim that the land Del-monte is surrendering to the County Government was their ancestral land.
Led by former Councilor David Chege, the residents, however, said they were not opposed to the renewal of Del-monte lease but they must be involved in all discussions concerning the land.
They have strongly opposed Waititu’s proposal to set aside 200 acres for the construction of an airstrip as well as a plan by Kiambu Woman Representative Gathoni Wamuchomba to set aside some acres for the construction of a rehabilitation centre . They have now issued a 7 days ultimatum to the Governor to respond to their concerns or they will invade the land in question. Source link
