Story · Kenya Power On The Spot Over Death of Giraffes

Electricity distributor Kenya Power faces yet another predicament in its long-lasting grapple to ameliorate a struggling company image which has over the years been tainted thanks to poor management.

The corporation is now accused of killing Kenyan wildlife as a result of poor engineering work by its technical crew.

Through a social media post, local TV journalist Karen Karimi called out the power supplier for failing to make any effort in fixing a section of low-lying power lines which have been causing the deaths of rare giraffes at the Soysambu Wildlife Conservancy in Gilgil.

Attached to her post were two images showing some of the "Rothschild's" giraffes, an endangered and almost distinct population, lying dead on the ground.

"#KPLCStopTheKilling," she wrote at the end of her tweet which quickly sparked anger among netizens. https://twitter.com/Karimi_Karen/status/1363450352599773185?s=20

The Rothschild’s giraffe, also known as the Baringo or Ugandan giraffe is a subspecies of the Northern giraffe which is the world’s tallest land mammal.

Some grow up to 6 metres tall which would explain why the low power lines at Soysambu are killing them.
