How To Pay KPLC Bill Via Mpesa in Minutes
Kenya Power provides two main ways to pay via M-PESA: one for prepaid users who buy tokens, and one for postpaid users who receive monthly bills. Both use different PayBill numbers.
Let’s break them down.
Buying Prepaid Tokens via M-PESA (PayBill Number: 888880)
If you use a prepaid meter, follow these steps to buy tokens:
Open your M-PESA menu on your phone.
Tap Lipa na M-PESA.
Choose PayBill.
Enter 888880 as the Business Number.
Type your KPLC prepaid meter number.
Enter the amount (between KSh100 and KSh35,000).
Key in your M-PESA PIN and press OK.
Confirm all details, then tap OK.
Wait for an SMS from M-PESA confirming the payment.
KPLC will send another SMS with your token number.
You can now input this token into your meter to restore or top up your electricity.
Paying Postpaid Electricity Bill via M-PESA (PayBill Number: 888888)
If you receive a bill at the end of the month, here’s how to pay:
Open the M-PESA menu.
Go to Lipa na M-PESA.
Select PayBill.
Enter 888888 as the Business Number.
Enter your KPLC account number (not meter number).
Type in the amount (KSh100 to KSh35,000).
Enter your M-PESA PIN and press OK.
Confirm all details, then press OK.
You’ll receive a confirmation message from M-PESA.
KPLC will send a message showing the bill is paid.
This process clears your outstanding bill instantly, and you’ll be notified once the payment is successful.
