How Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Awarded 273 Million Tender To Unqualified Company
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
CAPTION: Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Details have revealed that Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko awarded a two-year tender worth Ksh. 273 million to an unqualified garbage collection company.
While appearing before the sectoral committee on environment and natural resources on February 19, 2019, CEO of Aende Group Limited Ms. Derrik Aende said her company was awarded the contract in August 2018, just two months after its inception and registration which was against the procurement laws.
She went on to admit that she had already received Ksh 25 million out of the 273 million and that her company wasn't experienced in garbage collection.
When the committee asked the company's boss to explain how they managed to acquire such a lucrative tender despite facing serious competition from five other companies who had been shortlisted for the same, she couldn't answer.
According to the guidelines put in place, for a firm to be awarded such a huge tender, it must have a minimum of 5 years of work experience.
The officials have been summoned for further investigations next week and CNYAKUNDI.COM will be keenly following the matter and giving subsequent updates.
