A wave of arrests, stolen weapons, and disturbing intelligence reports have put former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua under serious scrutiny by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
DCI boss Mohamed Amin says no one is above the law—and if Gachagua’s name appears in the list of those behind the violent Gen Z protests of June 25, he will face the full force of justice.

Investigators Close In as Gachagua on the DCI Radar
DCI Director Mohamed Amin has placed Rigathi Gachagua firmly under the spotlight following the June 25 protests that turned violent across major cities. A total of 485 suspects have been arrested, with 448 already arraigned in court and 37 still in custody pending prosecution.
In a hard-hitting address on June 30, Amin confirmed that charges range from murder and gang rape to incitement, robbery with violence, and handling stolen goods. What’s more alarming is the strong evidence suggesting a coordinated and well-financed effort to sabotage national security and exploit the youth-led protests for political gain.
The DCI boss did not mince words when addressing the role of politicians in the unrest. “Rigathi Gachagua does not enjoy any immunity from prosecution. If in our investigations he’s found to have been involved, then appropriate action will be taken against him,” Amin declared.
This statement has added fuel to an already charged atmosphere, with the former deputy president facing growing calls to clarify his role in the events of June 25.
Orchestrated Violence and Political Puppeteers
Mohamed Amin painted a grim picture of a nation under siege from within. According to the DCI, intelligence reports showed that the violence was not random—it was planned.
“Individuals with specific instructions to attack public institutions and security installations were ferried in unmarked vehicles,” Amin revealed. These operatives were allegedly paid to hijack the Gen Z protests, which initially began as peaceful demonstrations against the Finance Bill and state corruption.
The DCI boss confirmed that several firearms and police equipment were stolen during these coordinated attacks. More concerning, some of these weapons have already been used in violent robberies, including incidents around Naivasha.
“This was not spontaneous anger. It was organized chaos,” Amin added. “And we are actively pursuing the mobilisers and financiers who orchestrated these actions.”
While Amin stopped short of naming Gachagua directly as a suspect, he was categorical that former state officials are not immune to arrest or prosecution. Investigations are ongoing, and the public was urged to help by coming forward with any relevant information.
Gachagua’s Reaction and Public Outcry
Gachagua has denied any involvement in the mayhem. Speaking just days after the protests, he accused the government of staging a crackdown on protesters using excessive force. He claimed that demonstrators were deliberately blocked from entering key roads like Thika and Kiambu Road, leaving them exposed to hired goons who looted and vandalized businesses in the Nairobi CBD.
The former deputy president also alleged that certain businesses were deliberately targeted, suggesting that the violence was more than just random destruction — it was a message.
His critics, however, have questioned the timing and tone of his remarks, claiming they were designed to fuel anti-government sentiment and portray the state as oppressive. Gachagua’s response has done little to silence speculation over his role in the unrest.
Meanwhile, the DCI continues to collect testimonies from victims of the protests. Business owners whose shops were looted and destroyed are being asked to come forward and aid in the investigations.
Amin emphasized that the search for protest financiers is ongoing, and arrests will continue in the coming days.
