EACC Officials Raid National Bank of Kenya, Arrests Director of Operations Thomas Gachie
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
EACC officials on Monday raided National Bank of Kenya and arrested Director of Operations Thomas Gachie for questioning. According to the National Bank of Kenya Official Website, Mr. Gachie joined the Bank in November 2012 and holds a BSc (Mathematics and Computer Science), a postgraduate Diploma in Computer science and an MBA (Management Science) all from the University of Nairobi and a Graduate Diploma in Banking from the University of London.
Thomas Gachie has been criticised by many who claim he has no functional knowledge or experience as to what procurement entails and was simply appointed to the post as a conduit for laundering illicitly-acquired funds.
Thomas Gachie, a close ally of Mohammed Munir the Chief Executive suspected of industrial-scale fraud similar to Kenya Airways under Titus Naikuni, Mumias Sugar under Evans Kidero or Uchumi under Jonathan Ciano, is being used to achieve certain agendas that have threatened to bring down National bank of Kenya.
He has the largest department in the bank, with sub-departments that are totally unrelated. It is said that anytime Munir is at loggerheads with a member of his top management team, he ensures that his department is merged with that of operations under Gachie, to synchronise fraudulent activities.
So why did EACC officials raid NBK and arrest Gachie?
Gachie was arrested by EACC and grilled for 4hrs over alleged bribery. Word has it he tried to solicit Ksh 6 Million to award a contract to a company that supplies cheque-processing scanners to NBK.
National Bank has engaged the services of ScanGroup to clean it's image with select campaigns targeting press releases and events, in similar fashion to other collapsed blue-chips.
The question is, why is the Central Bank of Kenya mute as all this happens?
