Chaos and tension rocked the Kibera Law Courts after a woman accused of leading a violent robbery at a Nairobi businessman’s home was denied bail. The accused, identified as Mary Waithira, was ordered to remain in police custody until she raises a cash bail of Ksh 50,000.
The ruling came amid dramatic exchanges in court, where Waithira’s alleged attempts to influence investigators were laid bare before Magistrate A.M. Ogonda.
Kibera Law Courts Uphold Strict Bail Terms
The Kibera Law Courts became a stage of confrontation when Waithira appeared before Magistrate Ogonda to answer to charges of intrusion and robbery. According to the prosecution, Waithira allegedly led a gang of attackers to the home of Nairobi businessman Eric Munene, also known by his popular moniker Wiselinks, during a night raid in March 2025.
Police reports indicate that the group broke into Munene’s Karen residence, made away with valuable property, and physically assaulted the businessman before fleeing. Investigators later linked Waithira to the incident through CCTV footage and witness statements, leading to her arrest.
The magistrate, while reading the ruling, emphasized that the allegations against Waithira were serious and well-documented, making her a potential risk to witnesses and ongoing investigations if released unconditionally.
“The accused will remain in custody until she meets the set bail conditions,” ruled Magistrate Ogonda firmly, maintaining that the case carried elements of premeditated violence and interference with justice.
Accused Warned Over Texting Investigating Officer

“Kindly stop texting and calling the investigating officer. Use formal channels through your counsel or the court,” the magistrate cautioned.

Businessman Demands Justice After Home Invasion
Victim Eric Munene, a well-known tech entrepreneur in Nairobi, has reportedly been living in fear since the robbery. He told investigators that the attackers stormed his compound late at night, tied up his security guard, and made away with electronics, cash, and personal items valued at over Ksh 2 million.
Speaking outside the Kibera Law Courts, a relative of Munene expressed frustration over what they termed as “calculated intimidation” by the suspects’ associates. “We just want justice to be served. This family has been living in trauma since that night,” the relative said.
Munene himself was not present during the court session but has pledged to attend future hearings. His lawyers maintain that the case is not just about theft but also about protecting citizens from organized home invasions that have recently risen in Nairobi’s upscale neighborhoods.

The magistrate directed that the matter be mentioned again on November 26, 2025, at the Kibera Law Courts for further hearing. The prosecution is expected to present additional evidence, including communication records and CCTV footage allegedly linking Waithira to the crime.
Meanwhile, Waithira will remain in police custody unless she manages to raise the required cash bail. Her defense team, led by lawyer George Mugo, insisted that their client is innocent and accused the police of targeting her unfairly. “She has a fixed place of residence and poses no flight risk. We will appeal this bail ruling,” Mugo said after the hearing.
