DCI After Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's Militia
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
CAPTION: Members of the suspicious Sonko Rescue Team. The office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday morning sent the Nairobi County Assembly a letter with a request to summon three Nairobi MCAs over the existence of a militia by the name “Sonko Rescue Team”.
The three are; Waithaka Ward representative Anthony Kiragu Karanja, Nominated MCA Ruth Ndumi (Jubilee Party) and Mlango Kubwa Ward Representative Patricia Mutheu.
Sonko's suspicious Rescue Team has been subject to discussion many times before, with quite a number of leader's having questioned its activities.
Two years ago, Sonko bribed NGO's Coordination Board Executive Director Mohamed Fazul who approved its registration as a non-profit organization.
The team was initially launched in January 2015 to offer an array of “services” including ambulance, hearse, breakdown, wedding transport, water, security and emergency response.
In April 2016, former Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero had written to Mr Fazul asking him to crack down on the then senator for failure to license the team.
