Corruption Tracker: Website Monitoring Donations Made By William Ruto
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
Just a few days after being on the headlines over a poll released by Ipsos Synovate showing that Kenyans perceived him as the most corrupt Kenyan, William Ruto is back in the news again. This time, over a donation that raised Kenyans' eyebrows. Yesterday, Mr Ruto was in Kajiado for a goat auction and he donated a whopping 5 million shillings. Adding to a long list of suspicious contributions in Harambees since he became Deputy President. A website named “ Corruption Tracker ” has now set up a special section for William Ruto, monitoring all donations he has made since 2016. According to the website, Ruto has donated approximately 108 million, money that he claims comes out of his own pocket. For a man with a monthly salary of Ksh. 1,487,500 he is would definitely be living beyond his means. Mr Ruto has contributed over 8 times his salary in the past 6 months, donating over Ksh. 7 million in Central Kenya alone. Kenyans on social media didn't receive these news very nicely. It angered them that the Deputy President was being so generous with his donations as the cost of living is hitting an all time high. They insisted that the money Mr Ruto donates are from looted public coffers and that the Harambee politics belongs to the Moi era. https://twitter.com/WanjikuRevolt/status/1036618510875717633?s=20
