The firm, African Spirits Limited, has for months been a crime scene over a tax evasion case against the billionaire. Part of the destroyed alcohol, the court heard was to be used as exhibits in the ongoing case.

“The two stole and destroyed the assorted wines and spirits with the objective of preventing the products from being produced in court as evidence against the businessman on January 4, 2020,” the prosecution submitted.

The accused denied all the charges and re set to know whether they will be released on cash bail or not Tuesday afternoon.

This is a second security incident since an officer manning the premises died last year after allegedly slipping from a staircase on a first floor.

Authorities denied he was intoxicated. Businessman Humphrey Kariuki when he was charged on August 19, 2019. Photo/CFM. The firm operations came to a halt on February 2019, after a raid by detectives led by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti revealed fake Kenya Revenue Authority excise duty stamps, used to evade tax.

There was also smuggled ethanol amounting to thousands of litres.

Kariuki faces nine tax evasion charges.
