Busted: Man using popular Instragram celebrity's photos to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
CAPTION: Maxine Wabosha A man by the name Joel Ndung'u has been exposed for using a popular YouTuber's photos to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans.
Ndung'u picks out photos of beauty YouTuber Maxine Wabosha from her social media accounts, edits them out and adds a phone number and a caption stating that the person on the photo is a Form Four leaver who is desperately looking for a job and would appreciate any kind of help offered.
He then shares the photo across various social media platforms using bot accounts created for the sole purpose of tricking Kenyans into sending the “girl” some money out of sympathy.
One of the posts shared on Instagram depicted the girl as “Gida” who was willing to do any job just to make ends meet; including house chores.
It took one keen Kenyan who sent some money after he was touched by the story only to find out that the phone number belonged to a certain Joel Ndung'u.
We urge other Kenyans who have fallen victim to this con to come out and share their stories in order to help us push relevant authorities to take appropriate action on him.
