Bribery: Desperate Kenyans Pay Hundreds Of Thousands Of Shillings To Join This Company
Newsroom Updated 2 min read
Ms. Juliana Rotich - BASF Country Cluster Head
Unemployment in Kenya is over 40% and Kenyans will go to great lengths to get employed.
Corruption is not a preserve of the public sector, it is rife in the private sector too.
Led by the biggest corrupt company Safaricom, many other smaller firms in the private sector are led by corrupt managers.
BASF East Africa Limited is one such company.
The company, headquartered in the USA, set base in Kenya in 2011, doesn’t intend to attract the best; only if you are able to pay Kshs. 500,000 and above, you can get a job here.
The problem with this corruption is that it attracts the not so qualified people who lack requisite skills to undertake their job.
Here is the short story (We are not blaming them)
Hi Nyakundi,
This is to beseech you to write about payment of bribes so as to be employed at BASF chemical company based in Westlands, Nairobi.
This year (2019) alone, six people reporting in the month of May have been employed; each giving a bribe of between Kshs.500,000 to Kshs. 1,000,000.
Since people are desperate to join the highly paid cadre of 6 digits salary, so they pay.
The problem is that unqualified people from one tribe are now being employed.
They have forged certificates from River Road, Nairobi.
Kindly highlight for us this menace as we are unable to come out openly.
