Boda Boda Operators In West Pokot Accuse Traffic Police Officers Of Harassment & Soliciting Bribes
Newsroom Updated 1 min read
Boda boda and matatu operators in West Pokot have raised their voice against police harassment, brutality, and corruption in the ongoing crackdown by the government.
Accompanied by Kapenguria member of parliament Samuel Moroto, they accused the traffic police in the area of using the crackdown as an excuse to take bribes from road users.
The riders also complained of the many police roadblocks set up in the area and said the officers were demanding bribes from each check.
According to the riders, the police harass them and impound their bikes despite the compliance deadline for bodaboda operators having been moved to January 2019.
